Caring for your Hair
Hair loss is a common side effect of melanoma treatment but it is often temporary. Usually, the hair grows back once treatment is stopped.
Tips to deal with hair loss and thinning:
- Wear your hair in a short, loose style; avoid ponytails and tight braids.
- Use a hair piece or wig. If you are not comfortable with a wig, try wearing a hat, scarf, or turban.
- Use a mild shampoo such as baby shampoo when washing your hair to prevent tangling.
- Use a soft hairbrush to prevent pulling and tangling.
- Sleep on a satin pillowcase to prevent your hair from rubbing on the pillow.
- Try not to use hair dryers, curling irons, and hot rollers.
- Avoid hair dyes and perms because they can contain harsh chemicals.
