Caring For Your Skin

Now that you've been through melanoma, it is more important than ever to protect your skin. A diagnosis of melanoma means you have a higher chance of getting melanoma again. Protect yourself when you're in the sun. The area where you had melanoma should not be exposed to the sun.

When you go outside, make sure that you:

  • Wear tightly-woven cotton clothing in the sun.
  • Wear long sleeves and long pants.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and neck.
  • Wear UV-absorbing sunglasses to protect your eyes.
  • Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 when you are in the sun.
  • Stay out of the sun between 10 AM and 4 PM.
